Investigation of the applicability of slit metal vessels in fast compression experiments
Description
Investigations have been carried out on the applicability of large diameter (diameter = 40 cm) slit metal vessels in fast theta-pinch discharges. Two limiting factors were identified, namely short-circuiting arcs across the slit gaps and wide current bridges connecting the two sides of the slits electrically via the pre-ionization plasma. Both of these effects could be avoided by a magnetic bias field superimposed on the discharge. The necessary condition for this bias field was verified. (orig.)

(orig.)
