Reducing NOx and particulate emissions from biomass combustion
Description
There are various ways of reducing emissions from biomass combustion: Firstly, primary methods, which involve improving combustion. This involves acting on the combustion device and its settings (temperature, oxygen content, turbulence and residence time). We can also modify the size and composition of the biomass, or opt for coal/biomass co-combustion. We will then move on to secondary methods, which involve treating the flue gases leaving the unit. NOx emissions can be treated by selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) or selective catalytic reduction (SCR). To illustrate our study, we looked at emissions from a boiler as a function of the amount of oxygen supplied. We processed data obtained experimentally for interpretation
