Description
The non-relativistic inelastic scattering of high energy electrons by hydrogen atoms in the ground state is analyzed. The method we use to evaluate the scattering amplitudes is the eikonal-Born series. Algebraic results for excitation of hydrogen to the 3S state by high energy electrons, 50 eV ≤ E ≤ 500 eV, are presented as an application of this method. We show some numerical results for the scattering amplitudes, differential and total cross sections, and compare with experimental results for this process. (author)
