Regularities in plastic deformation and fracture of polycrystalline commercial beryllium

Description
Mechanical properties of polycrystalline beryllium, produced from the powder by hot isostatic pressing are investigated within 4.2-300 K temperature interval. Presence of yield dent and shelf is characteristic of deformation hardening curve at 300 K. Yield dent and shelf disappear with the temperature drop down to 77 K, fracture becomes practically brittle and is connected with crack propagation along the grain boundaries. Tensile testing of two orientation samples (along and across the pressing axis) has demonstrated high material isotropy
