Tensile strength, impact strength and experimental analysis wear behavior of modified zinc nitrate filled polymer

This paper evaluates the tensile properties, impact strength and effect of independent parameters like filler content (A), sliding time (B) and normal load (C) on wear performance of Zn(NO3)2 filled unsaturated polyester resin using a statistical approach (Taguchi's method). Preparation of samples using hand lay up technique the weight fraction (3%, 5%, 7%, 9%, and 11%) of Zn (NO3)2 was filled with unsaturated polyester resin. The dry sliding wear trials were carried out using a criterion pin on disc depending on the Taguchi experiments (L9) MINITAB (19). The analysis of ANOVA and (signal to noise ratio) optimal mixture of factors to reduce the wear rate was committed. The results showed that the additions (11% wt) of Zn (NO3)2 have greatly improved the tensile properties, impact strength and wear property. Results of the S/N showed the factors 11% weight fraction zinc nitrate, 7 min and 20 N loads give the best wear rate resistance. Results showed analysis of variance, the weight fraction (A) and loads applied (C) the most remarkable influence on the wear rate followed by time sliding (B), also the interaction influence between the various control parameters be significant on the wear behavior.
