Passive residual power removal in NET in case of total loss of pumping system

  • 1. CEC, Ispra Establishment (Italy). Joint Research Centre
  • 2. Politecnico di Torino, Turin (Italy)

Description

Safety and environmental impact will play an important role for the acceptability of Fusion Energy in the future. JRC-Ispra is engaged in research for the development of an inherent safe reactor design looking, sources of hazard. Residual power of a like NET (Next European Torus) fusion reactor, essentially due to decay heat of activated materials, must be removed in case of total loss of pumping systems. The present work shows that residual power of NET can be removed, also for a loss of coolant inertia in the pumping systems and thermosyphon effects. A proposal for the IFW circuit, allowing natural cooling, and the detailed design of major components, have been given. (author). 14 figs.; 2 tabs
