Investigation of the suitability of corrosion-resistant, spherical fuel elements
Description
The investigation covers several variants of corrosion-resistant spherical fuel particles for HTR-type reactors. A ceramic cover embracing the graphite surface of the fuel spheres considerably reduces the reaction rates of the A3-3-matrix graphite in air and water vapour. Further extensive studies are to follow this one, for investigation of the reproducibility of silicon carbide coatings both on fuel spheres and on other graphitic support structures of a HTR. They are expected to significantly contribute to enhancing the safety of HTR systems. (MM) With 24 refs., 6 tabs., 24 figs

Im Rahmen der hier durchgefuehrten Untersuchungen wurden mehrere Varianten von korrosionsbestaendigen kugelfoermigen Brennelementen fuer Hochtemperaturreaktoren analysiert. Mit Hilfe einer keramischen Schutzschicht auf der graphitischen Oberflaeche der BE werden damit die Reaktionsraten von A3-3-Matrixgraphit in Luft und Wasserdampf erheblich reduziert. Weitere umfangreiche Studien zur Reproduzierbarkeit von Siliciumcarbidschichten sowohl auf BE als auch auf anderen graphitischen Tragstrukturen des HTRs werden somit einen wesentlichen Beitrag zur Erhoehung der Sicherheit von HTR-Anlagne leisten.
