A review of the use of CR-39 track detector in personnel neutron dosimetry and spectrometry

Description
The application of CR-39, a polymeric nuclear track detector, in personnel neutron dosimetry and spectrometry is reviewed. The mechanism of charged particle track formation in polymers is briefly described. The main thrust of this paper is centered upon the achievement of a flat dose-equivalent response over the neutron energy range of 0.1 MeV to 19 MeV. The methods developed for minimizing the direction dependence of the CR-39-based neutron dosimeter are discussed and limitations in the use of CR-39 are outlined. (orig.)
