Gene profiling study for oxidative stress related genes in artrial fibrillation

Artrial fibrillation (AF) in thought to be caused by oxidative stress. Oxidative stress at the cellular level results from many factors, including exposure to alcohol, medications, cold, toxins or radiation. The biochemical significance of oxidative stress has been proven in relation to a vast range of degenerative disorders, including cancer, diabetes, premature aging, Alzheimer's and many diseases. In the study we have investigated on the relation of AF and oxidative stress. To examine the effects of oxidative stress of AF, radioactive cDNA microarrays were used to evaluate changes in the expression of 1,154 genes in a total. This technology promises to monitor thousands of genes simultaneously so that we could have a better picture of the interactions between AF and oxidative stress. In the conclusion the gene profiles of our interest were significantly up- (32 genes, >2.0 of Z-ratio) or down- (16 genes, <-2.0 of Z-ratio) regulated in AF(+) samples. Moreover, the genes related to oxidative stress(54 genes in a total) were found; up- (32 genes) and down- (22 genes) regulated in AF(+) group
