Post accident monitoring instrumentation upgrades

  • 1. Westinghouse Electric Corp., Pittsburgh, PA

Description

Considerable attention has been devoted to post accident monitoring instrumentation following TMI-2. Guidance for identifying post accident monitoring instrumentation is outlined in Regulatory Guide 1.97, Revision 3 and NUREG-0737, Supplement 1. Tradeoffs must be considered by an operating or near term operating plant concerning the cost-effectiveness of implementing instrumentation upgrades (replacement or additional instrumentation) to address the applicable regulations. This paper discusses a minimum and maximum instrumentation upgrade approach and the hardware, licensing, and plant integration concerns that could be addressed before a plant specific approach is adopted
