Heat pipe application in nuclear reactors

  • 1. Materials and Energy Research Center, Tehran (Iran)

Description

The application of heat pipe in cooling systems of the nuclear reactors is discussed. A heat pipe using sodium as working fluid was constructed and tested. The experiments were carried out in order to determine the dynamic response of a heat pipe at start-up under operating condition. The results show that due to low thermal impedance of Na/Heat pipe, it is suitable to be employed as a component of heat exchangers in cooling systems of reactors
