Diffraction excitation of the Be nucleus by pions at 40 GeV/c with proton emission into the backward hemisphere

Description

The results of an experimental study, at the SIGMA-AJAKS facility, of the contribution of events with low secondary charged-particle multiplicity and large longitudinal momentum of the negatively charged leading particle to the cross section for the inclusive reaction π- + Be = pB + X at 40 GeV/c are presented. Here the proton B with kinetic energy TB in the range 0.1 < TB < 0.3 GeV is recorded at angles of θ = 150-165 degrees to the direction of the momentum of the incident π-meson beam
