Radiological monitoring in areas polluted by radioactive substances - the basis for optimizing agricultural production

Description

In the article the results of work on radiological monitoring in Volyn region of Ukraine are described. The works were carried out in the period from 1990 to present These research form the basis for the development of system of specific measures reducing the effect of harmful factors Based on balance calculation on the territory of Gauzily and Scrkhiv villages it was proposed to carry out the range of organizational (change of land use system), agrochemical and agrotechnical measures Predictive calculated assessments demonstrate that the implementation of substantiated system of countermeasures mulls in the decrease of specific removal of radionuclides from I ha of farmlands from 0.7 to 0.12 Mbq/ha, and the level of agricultural products contamination will not exceed permissible norms. Practical implementation of described approach can serve as a real means of reducing dose rates for the population on the territories where the main dose-forming factor in internal irradiation at the rate of radionuclides oral intake by human organism.
