Cleanup of radioactive contamination at Port Hope
Creators
Description
High radon levels in a local school and homes at Port Hope, from radioactive material stored and dumped over a long period by Eldorado Nuclear Ltd. resulted in the issuing by the Atomic Energy Control Board of a report by environmental consultants, accompanied by a statement from the Board, outlining the policy for clean-up operations. The report, which lists 47 contaminated sites, describes the immediate remedial action, involving material disposal, repair work etc., and removal of population during the process. It traces the background to the radioactivity problem and describes investigations into the levels of contamination at different sites. (U.K.)
