Description

The paper presents the result of epidemiologic surveys relevant to ambient SO2 concentrations in particular, from energy generating and other industrial facilities in the Haifa and other regions of Israel. It is indicated that the use of coal in the power stations and refineries in the study ares have a lesser impact on the environment and health than that of residual oil, in terms of SO2 and reported chest illness in children. Increased public awareness and concern about pollution is stated to influence the results of surveys. (author). 6 refs, 4 figs, 6 tabs
