Proton charge form factor and charge distribution in a nucleus

Description

Charge distribution in a nucleus is investigated by the method of hyperspherical functions. A single.-particle proton-distribution operator is used which takes into account the ''smearing'' of proton electric charges. Expressions for the charge and for proton charge form-factor have been obtained for nuclei of filled proton shells. The results are compared with the calculations in the point-proton approximation. The charge distributions for the 16O and 40Ca ground states are numerically calculated for different parameter α (mean-square nucleon radius is related to α 2π/α). By α decrease charge density increases at the center and decreases towards the boundary of a nucleus compared to point-proton calculations. It is concluded that allowance for the ''smearing'' of proton electric charge at different α has little effect on the charge distribution in a nucleus
