Introduction

The International Youth Nuclear Congress 2000 was a unique, first-of-its-kind event organized by an international group of young people. IYNC 2000 brought together a new generation of nuclear scientists and engineers to discuss current and future issues in the nuclear field. In parallel to the establishment of this international network, a common message on nuclear issues was distilled out of these days of unique interaction and sent to the outside world in the form of 'Y-Notes.' Participants in IYNC 2000 included both the new generation of nuclear scientists and engineers, and established professionals in the various fields of nuclear science and technology. It was expected that all participants shared a desire to think 'outside the box' to consider innovative approaches to the issues facing the nuclear industry now and in the future. Active participation in IYNC 2001 was solicited from students, young professionals, and established professionals in the various fields of nuclear science and technology. A number of paper and poster presentations, plenary sessions, workshops, and informal discussions comprised the interaction from those who were excited about the future of nuclear science and technology
