Synthesis and characterization of PrF3 nanofluoride for laser applications

  • 1. Department of Nuclear Physics, University of Madras, Chennai (India)

Description

Inorganic fluorides possess interesting applications for lasers, nuclear radiation detection and medical imaging. This work presents the results of PrF3 nanofluoride synthesized by a simple polyol method. Its structural, optical and morphological properties are analyzed by XRD, UV-vis and FESEM and FTIR methods. The PrF3 nanofluoride's crystallite size is about 12 nm and the particle is of flake and spherical morphologies. The UV-vis spectral result reveal optical absorption at 210 nm wavelength is related to 4f2 → 4f5d, that is 3Hj → 1S0 transition of Pr3+. (author)
