Quantitative scintiscanning of myocardial regions using thallium 201 in the diagnosis of coronary heart disease and follow-up studies to evaluate the success of transluminal coronary angioplasty

This study was performed to find out whether and to which extent quantitative scintiscanning of myocardial regions on the basis of thallium 201 is a suitable method before and after transluminal coronary angioplasty, when used in patients showing coronary heart disease (CHD) to detect the presence of CHD before surgery, to identify the vessel affected in univascular coronary disease, to identify the vessel mainly responsible for hemodynamic disorders in multivascular corornary disease, to reveal evidence of exercise-induced ischemia in the territory of a stenotised vessel before surgery, to asses those ischemic disorders on a quantitative basis before TCA is carried out, to throw some light on the role of collaterals in connection with scintiscan studies, to establish the degree to which dilatation has been achieved (or not achieved).
