Experimental verification of the characteristics of ion-acoustic cylindrical solitons

  • 1. Department of Electrical Engineering, Utsunomiya University, Utsunomiya, Japan

Description

Formation and propagation of cylindrical ion-acoustic solitons are observed precisely. The character of the soliton is confirmed to follow the predictions based on the Korteweg-de Vries or a modified Boussinesq equation with respect to the velocity and the amplitude dependence on the radial position but not the width.
