Description

The effect of zero-point motions of collective surface vibrations on subbarrier fusion is discussed. A model that includes this effect is presented, and reference is made to previous calculations that are in excellent agreement with measured fusion cross sections for the reactions 16O + Sm and 40Ar + Sm.
