Calibration of millicurie gamma sources using gamma ray spectrometry

  • 1. San Diego State Univ., Calif. (USA). Dept. of Physics

Description

This paper proposes a method to calibrate high-level gamma sources using gamma-ray spectrometry with a NaI(Tl) scintillation detector. Specific use is made of the detector efficiency and peak-to-total ratio to achieve absolute activity. Theory was applied to 137Cs and 60Co sources with resulting 95% confidence levels of about 4%.
