Neutrinos from the recent LMC supernova

Description
The paper concerns the supernova explosion that was observed recently in the nearby Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), and the neutrino burst associated with it. This provides a unique opportunity to test the theory of neutron star formation in Type II supernova explosions. The authors calculate the neutrino signals in terrestrial detectors, which, according to the standard supernova theory, are expected during a short period before the onset of the optical supernova. It is also shown how information on the fundamental properties of neutrinos can be obtained from the neutrino observations of the LMC supernova. (UK)
