Estimation of flow velocities in the edge zone of ball beds
Description
Automatic translation: The porosity or gap volume of a disordered spherical bed differs significantly in the immediate vicinity of the vessel wall depends on the porosity of the core zone of the fill. There the balls only touch a smooth container wall at certain points and the ordering effect of the first ball layers near the wall is relatively large, a characteristic course results for the porosity in the form of a damped vibration (Fig. 1).

Die Porosität oder das Lückenvolumen einer ungeordneten Kugelschüttung weicht in unmittelbarer Nähe der Gefäßwand erheblich von der Porosität der Kernzone der Schüttung ab. Da die Kugeln eine glatte Behälterwand nur punktweise berühren und der Ordnungseffekt der ersten Kugellagen in Wandnähe relativ groß ist, ergibt sich ein charakteristischer Verlauf für die Porosität in Form einer gedämpften Schwingung (Abb . 1).Files
