  • 1. Sorrento Electronics, Inc., Cary, NC (USA)
  • 2. Duke Power Company, Charlotte, NC (USA)

Description

Sorrento Electronics (SE), in conjunction with Duke Power Company, has designed, and is manufacturing, a state-of-the-art distributed radiation monitoring system (DRMS) for Duke's Oconee nuclear station. Oconee is a three-reactor, 850-MW Babcock and Wilcox nuclear power station located near Clemson, South Carolina. Construction of Oconee began in the late 1960s, with full-power operation of all units by 1974. The paper provides the system overview, including the central computer, and operator interface consoles, and describes system features including parallel processing, modular system growth, and improved operator interface. The system configuration used for the Oconee installation satisfies many important system requirements
