Description
The relative populations of the M/sub J/ magnetic substates of Ar- formed by electron capture from O-, H-, and D- are analyzed in terms of the M/sub L/ populations. The analysis correlated a dip in the J = 3/2, M/sub J/ = 1/2 population with a peak in the J = 3/2, M/sub J/ = 3/2 population. Above 2.5-keV incident-ion energy the populations formed by capture from H- are in accord with the hypothesis in spin independence in the formation of the states, but 10% departures are noted below 2.5 keV
