Properties of Y-Ba-Cu-O thin films with ordered defect structure: Y2Ba4Cu8O/sub 20-//sub x/

  • 1. Department of Applied Physics, Stanford University, Stanford, California 94305

Description

Properties of both unfaulted and faulted c-axis-oriented Y2Ba4Cu8O/sub 20-//sub x/ thin films are reported. Their superconducting transition temperatures are 81 and 93 K, respectively. This implies that the precise ordering of copper-oxygen layers in YBa2Cu3O/sub 7-//sub x/ is not crucial for the high T/sub c/. Y$ sub 2: Ba4Cu8O/sub 20-//sub x/ exhibits lower resistivity and a lower Hall coefficient than YBa2Cu3O/sub 7-//sub x/. The extra copper-oxygen layers seem to play an important role in the normal state
