Preliminary design of the core of CAREM 120 reactor with 235 fuel elements

Description

A core consisting of 235 fuel elements for a CAREM type reactor with a thermal power of 350MW is proposed. A cycle length of 480 days was achieved, resulting in an average discharge burnup of over 30000 MWd/tonU. The following safety margins were evaluated with acceptable results: Shutdown with and without a control rod failing, power peak factor, void and fuel temperature coefficients. All neutronic calculations were carried out with HUEMUL-PUMA. (author)

Se propone un núcleo con 235 elementos combustibles para un reactor tipo CAREM de 350 MW térmicos. Se obtuvo un ciclo de equilibrio de 480 días, con un quemado de extracción promedio del orden de 30000 MWd/tonU. Se evaluaron con buenos resultados: Márgenes de apagado con criterio de falla única, factores de pico de potencia y coeficientes de temperatura de combustible y vacío de refrigerante. Los cálculos neutrónicos se realizaron con la línea HUEMUL-PUMA. (author)
