Description
Any type of work involving ionizing radiation should be carried out in a manner such that the radiation exposure to the individuals (radiation workers and members of the public) is As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) without exceeding the limits stipulated by the competent authority. This is because radiation exposure can cause deleterious effects to the health of the exposed individual and in normal radiation work such effects may not be readily recognizable. X-ray generating equipment are used as radiation sources for diagnostic purposes in medical hospitals/clinics. Accurate determination of shielding requirements for diagnostic x-ray facilities has recently taken on added importance as regulatory agencies begin to impose reductions in the maximum permissible dose. The purpose of this paper is to develop a empirical method shielding design for various types of x-ray facilities
