Dose assessment of representative person from atmospheric dispersion of radioactivity discharge in Serpong Nuclear Site using CROM software

Description

The discharge of radioactive substances into the environment during the lifetime of an installation or facility can have a radiological impact on public and the environment so that it needs to be monitored appropriately one of them through the determination of the discharge limit of radioactivity to the environment. The discharge limit of radioactivity to the environment must be determined precisely through careful and thorough study. Dose assessment becomes one of the important stages in determining the discharge limit. CROM is one of the software recommended by the IAEA in determining the acceptability of an effective individual dose for a representative person due to radioactivity discharge from a facility or site. In this study, a dose assessment of radioactivity discharge in Serpong Nuclear Site especially from atmospheric dispersion has done using CROM software. Doses are calculated for a representative person that is an adult who live and work near the site and consume local products. The atmospheric discharge source terms are determined based on the design discharge available in the Safety Analysis Report of the installation and which has the largest dose contribution. Radionuclide used as source terms are: Kr-88 of 4,09E + 06 Bq/s, Xe-135 of 8,37E + 06 Bq/s, I-131 of 3,90E + 04 Bq/s, Sr-90 of 3,00E + 03 Bq/s, Xe-135m of 2.44E + 06 Bq/s, Xe-133 of 2.08E + 07 Bq/s, and Kr-85m of 2.43E + 06 Bq/s. From the calculation obtained that a total effective dose of representative person is 8.54 μSv/year. Compared to the Dose Constraint for member of the public of 1 mSv/year, this value is still far below it. (author)
