Cooling system for cooling a set of fuel elements in nuclear reactor containments
Description
The used fuel elements are accommodated in a drum, which is in turn arranged in a housing. The sodium coolant covers the fuel elements. Sodium is brought in by a pipeline which enters the containment at the sodium level and extends to its bottom. In order to prevent the sodium from escaping from the containment through the pipeline, if there is an external pipeline failure, there is an opening in the pipe wall near the level of the coolant. If the level drops to the opening, gas is introduced into the pipeline and stops the loss of coolant. Cooling of the fuel elements is then provided by the natural circulation of the sodium. (DG)

Die verbrauchten BE sind in einer Trommel untergebracht, die selbst in einem Gehaeuse angeordnet ist. Das Kuehlmittel Na reicht ueber die BE hinweg. Die Zufuhr des Na erfolgt ueber eine Zuleitung, die auf dem Niveau des Na in den Behaelter eintritt und bis zu dessen Boden reicht. Um bei einem aeusseren Rohrbruch der Zuleitung zu verhindern, dass das Na ueber die Zuleitung aus dem Behaelter auslaeuft, befindet sich in der Zuleitungswandung nahe des Niveau des Waermetraegers eine Oeffnung. Sinkt das Niveau bis zur Oeffnung ab, tritt Gas in die Zuleitung ein und unterbricht den Waermetraegerabfluss. Die Abkuehlung der BE wird dann durch Eigenumlauf des Na gewaehrleistet. (DG)Files
