Description
An overview is given of the possible role of nuclear magnetic resonance in the investigation of coronary circulation. The use of NMR spectroscopy in the study of the metabolism in the myocardium is illustrated by an example of 31P NMR spectroscopy of phosphates. The basic principles of NMR imaging are outlined and some problems involved in NMR imaging of the heart are discussed. The accuracy of NMR imaging in detecting and localizing of myocardial infarction is compared with that of thallium 201 scintigraphy. Finally some future developments of NMRI are discussed. 48 refs.; 9 figs.; 2 tabs
