Behaviour of zirconium in LiCl-KCl eutectic

Description
Electrochemical behaviour of zirconium in LiCl-KCl has been studied using several transient electrochemical techniques. The behaviour is complex and is significantly influenced affected by factors such as concentration of Zr4+, temperature of operation and presence and absence of Zr metal. Zirconium is expected to be present as Zr2+ in the molten salt electrolyte during electrorefining as it is the most stable species in the presence of Zr metal in the anode basket as a constituent of spent metallic fuel
