Nuclear fuel: modelling the advanced plutonium assembly

  • 1. CEA Saclay, Dir. de l'Energie Nucleaire DEN, 91 - Gif sur Yvette (France)

Description

The benefits of modeling in the nuclear sector are illustrated by the example of the design study for a new plutonium fuel assembly, APA, capable of ensuring maximum consumption of this fuel in pressurized-water reactors. Beyond the physical design of the assembly and its integration into the reactor, this serves for the working out of a complete materials flow and assists in modeling production from the entire inventory of nuclear power stations.
