Microdosimetry theory
Description
In order to deal with the randomness in the deposition of energy in biological materials by ionizing radiation, microdosimetrists determine the energy actually deposited in sites as small as or smaller than individual cells. They call this quantity the specific energy and denote it by z. The specific energy has a range of values in similar sites and the object is to determine its probability density, f(z). The theoretical and experimental techniques that have been developed for microdosimetry are discussed
