Description

The microscopic structure of the Gamow-Teller resonance (GTR) and the spin-flip ΔL=1 resonances at higher excitation energies in 208Bi has been investigated by observing their proton decay to the neutron-hole states in 207Pb. The tritons were detected at very forward angles including Θ=0 deg and the protons from the decay of the IAR, GTR and spin-flip ΔL=1 resonances were measured in coincidence with the tritons at backward angles. The extracted values for the GTR are in complete disagreement with earlier experimental results, which were obtained at a much lower bombarding energy. Recent theoretical estimates are in reasonable agreement with the present results for the GTR. (authors). 27 refs., 4 figs., 2 tabs
