Nickel-lanthanum ordering in YBa2Cu3O7

  • 1. Northwestern Univ., Evanston, IL (USA)

Description

Partial nickel and commensurate lanthanum substitution for copper and barium, respectively, in YBa2Cu3O7 are discussed. The products were characterized by resistivity, susceptibility, x-ray diffraction, electron microscopy and EDAX. Samples reacted for a shorter time, a few weeks, were complicated by inhomogeneity in addition to the segregation associated with the thermodynamic phase relationships present after equilibration. Interrelations between suppression of Tc, magnetic ordering and lattice constant variations such that a=b=c/3 are discussed as a function of the substitution
