Observations of H2O maser emission in the Large Magellanic Cloud

  • 1. Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, Epping (Australia). Div. of Radiophysics

Description

A search for H2O maser emission towards 10 continuum sources in the Large Magellanic Cloud was made with the Parkes radio telescope. Maser emission was detected near three HII regions, including the 30 Doradus nebula; the positions of the main features were estimated with an accuracy of +- 15 arcsec. The maser luminosities were comparable to the typical value of H2O masers in galactic HII regions. Upper intensity limits for maser emission in the remaining sources were 0.5 Jy. In contrast with previous observations, no emission was detected near N159. (author)
