Description
In recent years, tritium generating materials research for their use in controlled nuclear fusion reactors has gained importance. Among the proposed and studied materials for this application are placed lithium-containing ceramic materials, such as lithium metasilicate (Li2SiO3). In this study, the synthesis conditions of sol-gel hydrothermal method were optimized in order to obtain pure-phase lithium metasilicate, and also the influence of surfactant (CTABr) content in the synthesis gel on their main microstructural characteristics was evaluated. The morphological and structural characterization of the Li2SiO3 nanopowders was performed by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), N2 physisorption and electron microscopy (SEM and TEM). The existence of pure-phase lithium metasilicate in our material was determinate by using XRD. The values of specific surface area for samples with molar ratio CTABr/Si of 0.1 y 0.7 were 15.88 and 8.75 m2/g, respectively. TEM images show that the material consists in crystallites with needle-type shape, which are agglomerated forming hollow spheres. The sample prepared with lower surfactant content presented lower particle size, which is in agreement with its higher specific surfaces area obtained by N2 physisorption. The width and length of needle-type crystallites were measured from TEM images, being 0.3 and 3.11 mm for the sample with ratio 0.1, and 0.37 and 3.60 for the sample with molar ratio 0.7, respectively. Electron diffraction measurements allowed to establish that each needle-type particle is a single crystal. (author)
Abstract (Spanish)
(author)Files
