Subshell resolved L-K electron transfer and ionization cross section of Au by highly charged heavy ions

Description
The inelastic processes like ionization, electron transfer and excitation in ion-atom collisions are of fundamental importance. There have been many measurements in the past on the K shell ionization and few measurements towards the L-subshell ionization cross sections using heavy ions. Recently the K-K electron transfer cross sections have also been measured. No such measurements for the L-subshell resolved electron transfer to the inner shells of the projectile have been reported so far. Following our first measurements on the LI-K, LII-K and LIII-K transfer cross sections for the bare and H-like sulphur ions, we present here similar subshell resolved electron capture cross sections for bare and H-like Si and O ions on thin solid targets. The L-subshell resolved ionization cross sections as well as the electron transfer cross sections are measured for the Si and O ions, with energies between 2 to 5 MeV/u, bombarding on thin foil targets of Au. The transfer cross section data have been compared with the OBKN approximation including the perturbed stationary state corrections. The subshell ionization cross sections are also compared with the ECPSSR model. (author)
