Laser photoionization study of time dependent spectral shifts of localized electrons in ethanol glass. Temperature effects
Description
Electron solvation kinetics in ethanol glass have been studied from 83 to 1230K by ruby laser photoionization of β-naphtholate. At 1230K first-order kinetics are observed but at lower temperatures the kinetics deviate from first order and can be represented as composite first order or linear in electron concentration vs. log time. It is concluded that a hindered molecular reorientation mechanism for electron solvation is most probable. The temperature dependence of this mechanism is expected and found to be weaker than that of the bulk viscosity or dielectric relaxation
