Description
Intrashell transitions in Rydberg atom induced by distant collision with charge particle are considered as a quantum close coupling problem with n2 channels included. The closed-form exact solution for the initial ns state of H atom is obtained based on efficient use of the Fock close-quote s O(4) symmetry group. The results are applicable to the Rydberg atom with non-Coulomb core within the quasihydrogenic approximation. It agrees well with our previous classical trajectory (pseudo) Monte Carlo results. By this the binning procedure conventionally used in the Monte Carlo calculations is justified. copyright 1996 The American Physical Society
