Comparison of different damping mechanisms of Pi2 type geomagnetic pulsations

Description

Four possible mechanisms of geomagnetic force line resonance oscillation damping are discussed. Damping decrements are calulated for each mechanism. It is shown, that by degree of significance the mechanisms are placed in the the following order: ohmic losses in ionosphere and at the longitudinal electric resistance; resonance frequency inhomogeneity; magnetospheric plasma pressure gradient
