Mechanical properties of glass fiber-reinforced vinyl ester composites post-cured by electron beam irradiation

Description

In this study, glass fber-reinforced vinyl ester (VER/GF) composites were prepared from VER/GF prepreg by vacuum bagging process. The post-curing of VER/GF composites were performed by electron beam irradiation with a variety of absorbed doses. The mechanical properties of VER/GF composites were dependent on the absorbed dose. The analytical results show that the post-curing by electron beam resulted in the enhancement of the flexural strength and modulus, tensile strength and modulus, and thermal stability. The mechanical properties of VER/GF composites post-cured by electron beam were superior than those of VER/GF composites post-cured by heat treatment. Therefore, post-curing by electron beam irradiation is an effective and powerful method to the mass production of VER/GF composites
