Silica aerogel threshold Cherenkov counters for use at intermediate energies

Description
We describe our experience with a silica aerogel Cherenkov counter of small geometric dimensions. We wanted to use this material with very small refractive index to separate pions up to 300 MeV from relativistic electrons in electro-pion-production experiments. (orig.)
