Fuel assembly

Description

A fuel assembly comprise long fuel rods and short fuel rods arranged in a lattice in a channel box and a water rod disposed to the central portion thereof. The content of the fissile materials of fuel pellets near the upper end of the short fuel rods is made lower than the content of fissile materials in other portions of the fuel pellets. That is, the enrichment degree for uranium 235 of the fuel pellets is set at 3.5wt% near the upper end, while the enrichment degree of uranium 235 for the fuel pellets is set to 4.2wt% in other portions of the fuel pellets. This can suppress a power spike at the top end of the short fuel rod to improve the mechanical integrity of the short fuel rod and obtain a fuel assembly of high integrity corresponding to high burnup degree.
