Ion accumulation in electron rings
Description
The infuence of ion-ion interaction on the process of ion accumulation in electron rings is studied. It is shown that the part of ion-ion interaction is essential in accumulating ions of light elements. The aproximate formulas for definition of the average ion charge and the total number of ions have been found for the accumulation of medium and heavy ions in the beams of variable volume. The accumulation of argon, krypton and xenon ions from the residual gas during the compression of electron rings in JINR heavy ion accelerator has been calculated. Calculations showed that contribution of ion-ion interaction into the accumulation of medium and heavy ions in electron rings is small. Charge-exchange decreases ion charge dispersion particularly for argon
