Description

Generalized pairing theory is applied for studying proton-neutron pairing within a solvable O(8) model. Solution of the pairing problem is found in close analytical form. It takes into account all possible modes of proton-neutron pairing in nuclei. A comparison is made with the exact ground-state energies for a number even-even and odd-odd nuclei. The importance of proton-neutron pairing in nuclei is demonstrated. The resulting analytical solution is suitable for further investigation of QRPA description of nuclear double β decay. (author)
