Description

Electron spin resonance dating of a geological event, fault formation or movement, based on the stress-induced decrease of the signal intensity of the E' centre in quartz grains is discussed. Mechanical bleaching is demonstrated for terrestrial carbonate. Application of the method to clays from outcrops at Mt. Rokko and Atotsugawa faults with proper assessment of environmental radiation gave reasonable ages. (author)
