Radioactive waste storage. Vol. 3

Gorleben represents an important part of the radioactive waste storage concept of West Germany. Some lectures are concerned with the exploration of sites, where the concept, the quaternary and tertiary strata of the overlying rocks, the movement of ground water, the geology of the salt strata, the results of predrilling of shafts and the presence of solutions and of gas are taken into account. The safety analysis of the whole system with geomechanical site safety examination for a final store and examination of the spread of radio nuclides from a final store are also considered. Reports are made on individual results of explorations of the overlying rocks, hydrology, development of salt strata, layout of exploration shafts for gas access and the occurrence and origin of solutions in the salt strata at Gorleben.
